How To Build Meaningful Connections

"Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued. When they can give and receive without judgement; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship." @brenebrown #atlasoftheheart

Meaningful relationships and friendships don't happen overnight. They take time, effort, and intention to build a solid foundation. And, then consistent nurturing to maintain, and deepen connection.

Here are 5 ways to build meaningful connections in your personal and professional lives:

  1. Practise Vulnerability: Share your thoughts, dreams, fears, feelings and successes. Show them who you authentically are; not who you think they want you to be.

  2. Have An Adventure: Hang out, try something new, share an experience. Get comfortable exploring the world together, playing and growing together.

  3. Get Curious: Try not to assume you know everything about a person. Be open-minded, ask open ended questions, and have meaningful conversations. Let go of any judgments or expectations.

  4. Lean Into Conflict: Apologize when you get something wrong. Validate how the other may be feeling or the hurt you may have caused. Show up with empathy, and openness. Focus on connecting, understanding, and learning. Embrace the uncomfortable.

  5. Be Present: When you are with someone actually be WITH them. Put away your phone, ignore distractions, focus on who you’re with and what they’re saying. Be an active listener. It will go a long way, and be reciprocated.
